United for all

Inland Southern California United Way, a leading advocate for equality and inclusivity, strongly condemns the recent wave of attacks on school boards in the Inland Region and across the nation, targeting the LGBTQ+ community.

ISCUW President & CEO Kimberly Starrs has this to say, “These acts of bigotry and discrimination undermine the fundamental principles of diversity, respect, and education that our society holds dear. The attacks on school boards, driven by hate and intolerance, not only threaten the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ students, staff, and their families, but also erode the progress we have made towards creating inclusive learning environments for all. These acts serve as a reminder that there is still much work to be done to foster acceptance and understanding within our communities.”

Inland SoCal United Way firmly believes that every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported in their educational journey. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, urging immediate action to address the alarming rise in these attacks and ensure the protection of students and staff. We call upon school boards, educational institutions, lawmakers, and community leaders to take a decisive stance against discrimination and work towards implementing policies that safeguard the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. It is imperative to foster inclusive educational environments that celebrate diversity, provide comprehensive support systems, and promote understanding.

In this critical moment, Inland SoCal United Way also extends our support to LGBTQ+ students, families, and educators who have been affected by these acts of hate. We are committed to providing resources and advocacy to ensure that their voices are heard, their rights are protected, and their lives are valued. It is our collective responsibility as a society to reject bigotry, discrimination, and violence in all its forms. Together, we must stand up against hatred and create educational spaces that empower every student to thrive, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
